de San Roque
Guadiaro River Estuary and Torreguadiaro Lagoon are two of the most relevant nature spots in the borough of San Roque. The river estuary is located at the rivermouth, in the heart of Sotogrande Costa. Torreguadiaro Lagoon is situated between Sotogrande Marina and the village of Torreguadiaro. Both nature areas are wetland areas of great importance for many species of birds and excellent points of observation for ornithologists interested in the Strait of Gibraltar as a migratory route between Europe and Africa.
The Arca Mountains, situated north of the Alcaidesa residential area and the A-7 dual carriageway, is one of the Gibraltar Area’s most attractive geological formations. The mountain range covers a 200 hectare surface area of Mediterranean scrubland, with cork oak and pine trees.
Pinar del Rey is a suburban park spanning 338 hectares at the heart of the local region. This unique forest paradise has an intriguing story that began in 1800 when the Spanish Navy planted trees to supply timber for warships. Today Pinar del Rey and the Alcornocales Natural Park are the natural lungs of the Campo de Gibraltar area.
